Nablus to host latest Palestine Motor Sport race
The event, sponsored by Wataniya Communications, will see racers take to their cars for the first round at 9am on Faisal Street in Nablus City, which will see both men and women compete.
Federation chairman Khaled Qadura said the fastest three racers will be awarded cash prizes and the fastest woman racer will receive gifts donated from the Shamout Center and other stores.
Qadura called on racers to present themselves in Nablus on Thursday for the mandatory car inspections, and to register for the race. Racing fans were asked to promptly arrive at the venue at 9am the following day to watch the competition unfold.
A celebration to honor the event's winners will take place in a Nablus restaurant after the races at 6pm, the sporting official added.
In January, the Palestinian Motor Sports Federation announced the 2010 schedule for racing events and that Palestinian racers would also travel to meets outside the area, including the Middle East Championship Rally in Qatar on 21 March, the Kuwait Rally on 4 March, a meet in Jordan on 1 April and a race in Saudi Arabia on 20 April. Racers will travel to Lebanon on 17 September, to Syria for the Highlands race on 7 August.
However, Palestinian race car driver Rami Jaber was denied entry to Kuwait, where he traveled for the Rally Champion 2010 events.
Jaber, who earned first place in the second round of the Middle East Rally Championships earlier in the year, arrived in the Gulf country with a letter of invitation from Kuwaiti organizers of the event, but was told to wait at the airport while customs officials checked his papers. He was later refused entry.
