The African continent has come to be viewed as only interested in consuming what Asia and the western world manufactures.

This is quite true in some ways. Almost all electronics and cars used in Africa are imported from other continents. Yet this is not to say there are no manufacturers in Africa. Only that they are not enough yet.

Firstly, that new name – 718 is Porsche’s new junior sports car model name, linking it to the 718 race car from the late 1950s, which also used a flat-four engine (more on that later). The “Boxster” bit now denotes the bodystyle, with this and the recently-unveiled 718 Cayman coupé now rolled into a single model line.
Automotive manufacture is a serious goal heating up in the East Africa region. Uganda comes in with an answer to Africa's private mobility needs after an earlier achievement of a full electric vehicle namely the Kiira EV prototype. This time they created a proof of concept for a production vehicle with a Hybrid powertrain to match called the Kiira EV Smack.

"East Africa’s first hybrid electronic car has gone on display in Kenya ahead of its production in 2018.

The Ugandan-made Kiira EV smack will be launched in Nairobi later on Friday as the manufacturers seek potential investors willing to fund their dream.

Kiira Motors Corporation, the manufacturer of the vehicle, is looking for $300 million to enable them begin production.

The hybrid electronic vehicle was conceptualised and made in Uganda, and now is seeking for potential investors across the East African region.

Chief Operations Officer of Kiira motors, Albert Akovuku says: “The amount of investment that is required 350m USD.”
Tesla released its preliminary June quarter delivery and shipment results and they fell short of guidance once again. Additionally the outlook given in the press release for the second half of the year indicates that the analyst’s revenue and earnings projections will have to be lowered again.

June quarter’s loss about to become larger

The Street is forecasting that Tesla’s June quarter revenue would be $1.82 billion, up 14% from the March quarter and was probably assuming that the company could hit its 17,000 unit guidance. However, the company delivered fewer cars in the June quarter at 14,370 vs. the March quarter’s 14,810 for a shortfall of 2,630 cars. There were 74% more Model X’s making up 32% of the deliveries or 4,625 vs. 16% in the March quarter or 2,400.
A group of craftsmen in Pecan village, Mojosongo District, Boyolali, Central Java province, Indonesia, managed to make replica sports cars such as Bugatti and Mercedes-Benz with the original size of the waste timber.

Eko Lukistyanto is making a wide variety of miniature, mock-ups of cars, motorcycles and tricycles from teak wood waste. To create a replica of the sports car takes three weeks to a month, depending on the level of complexity. The replica has the same detail as the original including tire size, interior and steering.

In addition to the replica of the original size, they also make miniature and tricycles. This effort was initially pioneered by Widodo, in 1994. Eko’s father who is the eldest son went on to become the successor to the business of this craft.

This craft business start ogled after Eko follow a craft exhibition in Jakarta. His work got managed to attract a number of foreign buyers. Not long ago, Eko began flooded with orders. Now they have customers across the US, UK, Germany, and other European countries. However, Eko claimed never to promote the craft specifically or via the internet.

"Promotion of mouth only to buyers who work together," said Eko.
Chile will be made the hub for the entry of Proton cars into the Latin American market, says Malaysian Ambassador to the country, Datuk Dr Mohamad Rameez.

He said a meeting held last week between the embassy in Santiago with the Chilean Taxi Association or Federation, would further enhance the demand for Proton cars.

This is especially with the Saga model possibly being used as taxis in Chile.

“The Taxi Federation is currently looking into such an endeavour,” he told Bernama in a statement.

Proton made its debut again in Chile in May this year and is expected to sell the Preve, Exora and Saga models by the thousands by year-end.

Andesmotor, an affiliate of the well-known Kauffman Group, is the distributive agent for Proton in Chile.

Meanwhile, in a related development, Mohd Rameez said Proton handed a Proton Exora 1.6 Supreme to the embassy last week, as part of a collaboration to promote Malaysia and tourism to Chile and Chileans.

The Proton Exora had beautiful stickers portraying places of interest in Malaysia placed on it, alongside the Visit Malaysia motto as well as that of the Petronas Twin Towers, to ensure the promotion was done in a more creative and innovative way.

“The car was also exhibited during a Malaysian and Asean tourism promotion event in Santiago.

“Through this kind of innovative promotion of Malaysia, other than saving costs for the Government, (it) would also assist in promoting Proton to Chileans,” Mohd Rameez said.

He said the move can also help further enhance trade, tourism and people to people links between Malaysia and Chile.
Iran’s second largest carmaker, SAIPA (Société Anonyme Iranienne de Production Automobile), has begun shipping locally made cars to the Mediterranean country of Lebanon.

The company’s export deputy, Ahmad Esmaeili, noted that the initial agreement had been reached in January after conducting extensive negotiations with potential Lebanese business partners. SAIPA will sell vehicles across Lebanon and will offer after-sales services, local automotive website Persian Khodro quoted him as saying.

The official noted that the first shipment of 152 vehicles includes a wide class of vehicles namely passenger cars and pickup’s as well as heavy and semi-heavy duty vehicles.

The company official announced it has exported a range of Prides (X100), Tibas, Arios, Zamyad pickup trucks and the Chinese Brilliance H200 and H300 manufactured by SAIPA and Pars Khodro in Iran.

He further said that the Prides and Tibas will be priced $7,500 – $8,500 while the Brilliance H300 and H200 as well as the pickup trucks will be sold for $10,000 to $13,000. The shipment’s total worth is nearly $1.2 million.

In the first year, SAIPA will be shipping 500 vehicles to Lebanon to test the appetite for the vehicles, he said.

“Lebanon’s market is not very large and 50,000 units are sold in the country annually.”

According to Esmaeili, SAIPA had carried out comprehensive investigation on Lebanon’s market and economy before signing the deal.

“Lebanon’s market is very attractive especially because the country is one of the most prominent tourism hubs in the region,” he said.

He pointed to economic price range, fuel efficiency, affordable spare parts and after-sales services as the competitive advantages of SAIPA’s products while projecting that SAIPA is set to gain a considerable share of the lower end of the market in Lebanon.

He added that SAIPA’s presence in Lebanon has several challenges. “Prominent American, European and Asian brands all operate in the Lebanese market and the second-hand car market is also very popular.”

The competitive advantages of SAIPA, however, can help the company gain a strong foothold in the region, he noted.

“SAIPA will be setting up three after sales service centers, one in Beirut and two in Tripoli. A shipment of auto parts will be sent soon.”

To Africa and Beyond

In addition to expanding its market share in the Eastern Med, the company official has said it has begun procedures to enter the burgeoning African market.

Esmaeili said SAIPA also plans to begin operations in Sub –Saharan Nigeria.

“We are currently conducting the initial negotiations with business groups in that country,” he said, adding “It has been estimated that SAIPA can produce 15,000 vehicles over a five-year period in Nigeria.”

Earlier in January, the company announced that in the second half of 2016, it would begin production of five models in Algeria, said Mehdi Jamali, the company’s CEO at the time.

For that market Tiba, Saina and Pride were the likely contenders, Donyaye Khodro quoted Jamali as saying.

It was reported that SAIPA predicted it would annually produce 20,000 vehicles there. The name of the Algerian company was not mentioned in the original report.

“If an auto part manufacturing site is set up in Algeria and the supply chain is optimized, SAIPA will be able to produce more than 20,000 vehicles on an annual basis,” he projected.
The Esemka, a locally made car, which once contributed to the skyrocketing popularity of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, is reportedly due to begin mass production next year.

Spokesperson for the car producer PT Solo Manufaktur Kreasi (Esemka), Sabar Budi Samekto, revealed that his firm had signed a cooperation agreement with the Surakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMS) and the Chinese Beijing Automotive Group Co. Ltd. (BAIC) at the beginning of this month.

"We hope the production of Esemka cars will rise to about 500 units a month," Sabar said over the weekend, adding that so far the company had produced 300 cars.

The cooperation with the various parties, according to Sabar, was a way of realizing the pledge to produce all of the components of the cars domestically.

"At this stage we will indeed assemble cars some of whose components come from BAIC. In the future hopefully we will come up with cars really made in Indonesia," Sabar said.

The first Esemka car, formerly called the Kiat Esemka, was produced by students of SMK 1 Trucuk, a state-run vocational high school in Klaten, Central Java, in 2011.

The cars made headlines after Jokowi, then Surakarta mayor and now President, decided to use them as official vehicles for himself and for his then deputy mayor FX Hadi Rudyatmo.

The cars underwent emission tests twice in 2012 at the Serpong Propulsion and Motor Thermodynamics Center (BTMP) in South Tangerang before they were declared to have passed the test in mid 2012 with the Euro 2 car standard.

The car-production project was reportedly neglected after Jokowi was elected Jakarta governor two years ago and then elected as the country's president this year.

Sabar said that although it had been a long time since news had been heard of the car, Esemka continued being produced in 10 different locations across Java.

According to Sabar, an average of 10 Esemka units had been produced monthly since 2013. A sports utility vehicle (SUV) model sells for Rp 140 million (US$11,200) while the pick-up goes for Rp 65 million.

Separately, UMS Rector Bambang Setiaji said the university had prepared a 4-hectare site in Kartasura, Sukoharjo, in Central Java for the Esemka production.

Bambang said the allotted site was proof of the university's seriousness in following up the cooperation with PT Esemka and BAIC.

He said UMS has decided to support the move to mass produce the cars as a way of creating a stimulus for the revival of the idea of Indonesian national-car production, which been repeatedly initiated but so far to little avail.

He said to make the national-car production programme a success government intervention was needed. One way of doing so, according to Bambang, was by encouraging state officials to use the national cars for their own transportation.

"The government must encourage people to use national cars," Bambang said.

Last April PT SMK handed over 40 Esemka SUVs and pick ups. They were the first production lot and were all produced at an SMK in Tangerang, Banten.
For the first time in nine years, Israeli authorities allowed the entry of new taxis into the Gaza Strip on April 13. After Hamas won the legislative elections in June 2006 and came to power, Israel imposed an embargo on taxis as part of a tight blockade restricting a wide range of goods.

Six out of 36 Skoda 2002-model taxis have already entered Gaza while the rest will follow once their registration papers are completed. The entry via the Kerem Shalom crossing in southern Gaza is being coordinated with the Palestinian ministries of transportation in the West Bank and Gaza.

Khalil Zayyan, the head of the public relations department at the Ministry of Transportation in Gaza, said the number of taxis approved for entry by Israeli authorities is nothing compared to the actual number needed, which is estimated to be double the existing 4,000-5,000 dilapidated cars in the Gaza Strip.
Palestine is a rich country. Most of the areas claimed under the State of Palestine are occupied by Israel for many years where there is always a state of war. Despite all these factors, Palestine is a part of United Nations and has also been granted the status of nonmember observer state.

Though the existence of Palestine had been a controversy since its independence, this country has produced many billionaires and millionaires who are establishing the economy of the country and are also inaugurating foreign relationships with leading countries of the world.

One of major billionaires in Gaza, Palestine, is Abu Marzouk. His fortune estimated at 2-3 billion dollars.

The other Khaled Mashaal, head of Hamas’s political wing. His fortune is estimated worth $2.6 billion. Some Arab commentators, with other sources, say he is worth between 2 and 5 billion, invested in Egyptian banks and Gulf countries, some in real estate projects.
Repairing cars in the Gulf, a Palestinian mechanic from the Gaza Strip once spotted a vehicle that took his breath away.

It was a classic: a Mercedes Gazelle. Munir Shindi knew that he had to have one. So, after returning home to Gaza, he set about building a replica of the 1927 model of the two-door, open-top roadster from scratch.

Cannibalizing parts from used vehicles and importing a few items such as locks, hub caps and hinges from the United States, Shindi, 36, spent nearly two years shaping his masterpiece. It's now on display in his mechanic's shop.

"I wanted to prove to myself that I can make it and that nothing was impossible," he said.

Off-white with burgundy seats, the replica is built on a Mitsubishi chassis and powered by a 1,600 cc Mitsubishi engine. It drew admiring glances and cheers from motorists and pedestrians as Shindi, accompanied by two of his sons, took a rare drive down a main Gaza street on Sunday.

"I am still waiting for the authorities to allow me to license it so I can drive it properly," he said.

Designed by Ferdinand Porsche, the lightweight Gazelle series helped Mercedes dominate motorsport in the late 1920s and early 1930s. According to classic car websites, about 300 Gazelles were produced, and one unrestored model sold for $7.4 million in 2004.
Palestinians in Gaza, territory controlled by the Hamas Islamist group, import cars from around the world via neighboring Israel. There are about 70,000 registered cars in the small, densely populated enclave of 1.95 million people.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455847677900774147.post-57146100371416339182010-07-03T16:49:00.000-07:002010-07-03T16:58:16.378-07:00Palestinian solar car hits Hebron streetsAs the world searches for alternative energy sources, a team from a Hebron university built a single-passenger car that runs on solar power.

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 300px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjxlWj0FDGSEww9JWwukddeivVGc6mR_xrzGHy3VQUxA0aF2ZzMf6DonKus6t7zAXi7dsG9AupKOBBH4OgU-Y4iHa05hU1C3jv1MsaSqP9Qm0uyzuIp89X7AsTehKajFkkEFTZdfnHtwdT6/s400/solar3.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489832729960845714" />
<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 298px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh4Yz9DRhlPm2JFbcYyDhyphenhyphenTphMDJu8tmeAxQnoDXzEBSMh6PWx5t9gZLiernqOq6FOMxWkPs3RQ6tjRVaZuSv3PfW4qd6voCEYXNxuj6PlDNsR3lg-ATZbJewOJEdiyQTyu0aFlWsSrWQTT/s400/solar2.PNG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5489832727403118050" />
Engineering students from the Palestine Polytechnic University made the 3.7-by-1.7-meter vehicle as a graduation project. The car uses hundreds of photovoltaic solar cells to convert sunlight into electricity, which is then stored in batteries.

The vehicle uses 12 batteries, totaling 24 volts, which power the car for three to five hours. Running at its maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour, the batteries power the car for 100 minutes. The batteries are rechargeable, so electricity from home can be used in the winter.

Dr Zuhdi Salhab, who supervised the project, said sourcing the material to create the alternative energy presented an obstacle, but he praised the students’ creativity. Given the chance, Salhab said, Palestinian students could come up with more “great projects that stimulate global development.”
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4455847677900774147.post-72998047553690866712010-06-30T10:00:00.000-07:002016-06-26T12:06:39.296-07:00103 vehicles delivered to Palestinian Authority from UAE

The British Council and the Palestine Motorsports Federation wrapped-up its two-day training for women racers in Ramallah on Sunday, with new faces joining the ranks of Palestinian racing, as women prepare to compete against their male rivals on 26 June.

Samia Khoury, a mother with two children from Jerusalem, said her husband, racing trainer Bishara Khoury had "encouraged me to race many times, but now, I feel able to compete with other women on the track."

The training, hosted by professional British race car trainer Helen Elstrop, was geared toward improving Palestinian women racers' skills and technique in the sport, and saw nine women racers participate.

New to the sport, Hamameh Jorban, 30, and a member of the Palestinian football team Jiser Az-Zarqa in northern Israel said she had previously only been a fan, supporting racer Nour Daod from the stands. "Now, I will compete with all," she said.

Racer Betty Sa'adeh, who recently took time out from the sport, said "I didn't have the chance to train; I could only do it on my weekends, but now, I'm back on the track." Achieving high scores throughout the training, Sa'adeh ranked among the top three at the end of trials.

The sportswomen were briefed on regulations, professional racing, and how to become a high-ranking racer.

Palestinian Championship winner George Sa'adeh, from Bethlehem, also offered training but was the only male racer in attendance. Greatly encouraged by Elstrop, Sa'adeh said the workshop was "an excellent move" and called for wider training opportunities for both men and women. "Helen was wonderful, and she's been a coach and a racer for 17 years, and is married to a racer!" Sa'adeh said.

Karen Maluskie, who heads the British racing project in Palestine, said the women's team would have a separate budget for race car maintenance, and are studying the possibility of brining in another car for the racers.

She added that Suna Oweida from Jerusalem was appointed captain of the women's team, while Bishara Khoury, also from Jerusalem, was named official coach and mechanic.

"We encourage the establishment of a Palestinian state, and it needs to have a good image, a better understanding and view of Palestine, and especially of Palestinian women," Maluskie said.

"When I came to Palestine and saw women racing, I thought it was a great project and sport to encourage that gives women a chance to express themselves and prove they are not ignored or marginalized," she added.
